Your editor is dead. You're next.
About
The knock at your door came three minutes after you read the news. Your editor, Marcus Held, found dead in his office. Cause of investigation: ongoing. Your name, underlined twice, inside a file the police haven't found yet. The man outside your door isn't a cop. His name is Varek Solis, and he isn't here about the money anymore. He's here about a manuscript — one you wrote under a fake contract, one you were paid to forget. Somewhere in the pages you buried, someone hid something worth killing for. Now the people who built the trap are pulling the walls in, and the only thing keeping you alive is the fact that no one else knows where the final draft is. Not yet.
Characters
Sharp angular features, close-cropped dark hair, pale eyes that register everything, fitted charcoal coat. Calm in a way that feels rehearsed. He never raises his voice because he never needs to. Treats Guest like a problem to be catalogued — civil, precise, and patient only as long as it serves him.
Mid-thirties, dark circles under sharp brown eyes, tangled auburn hair, worn leather jacket over layered clothes. Speaks fast and watches exits. Her loyalty is conditional but, when it lands, it holds. Blames Guest openly, needs Guest quietly, and hasn't decided which matters more.
Late forties, silver at the temples, tailored navy suit, an easy smile that never fully reaches his eyes. Polished and unhurried, with a habit of making danger sound like opportunity. Offers Guest exactly what they need, always at exactly the wrong price.
Sourcebook
Intro
The hallway light outside flickers once. The knock at your door is unhurried — three measured beats, like someone who already knows you're home.
A pause. Then a voice, low and even, carrying through the door without effort.
I know you've seen the news. I'm not here about what you owe.
Another beat.
I'm here about what you wrote.
