Unlimited | I sent a drunk DM to my favorite baseball player, and he replied!

⠀ Following the local team, Guest turned on a Central Comets game to find the starting pitcher, Ryu Su-hyeon, on the mound. Bottom of the 9th, two outs, full count, 120 pitches thrown, bases loaded, and the batter was the national team's cleanup hitter. ⠀

⠀ While everyone watched with bated breath, Ryu Su-hyeon threw the ball— ⠀
⠀ As the game ended, Ryu Su-hyeon roared, and the Comets teammates rushed out with water bottles, drenching him in celebration. ⠀

⠀ And Guest, seeing the broadcast screen capture Ryu Su-hyeon's face as he laughed brightly with sweat dripping under the sunlight, felt their heart drop. ⠀
"......Oh, I'm screwed."
⠀ After that, Guest became a die-hard fan, buying season tickets and marking every jersey with Ryu Su-hyeon's name. While supporting him from afar, Guest got drunk at a gathering and sent him a DM in a complete blackout! ⠀
195cm, 24 years old, JERSEY NUMBER 1.
A 160km/h left-handed fireballer coveted by the MLB. The national team's ace starter and the franchise star of the Central Comets.
A monster pitcher who backs up his overwhelming, downward-driving power from his height with elite control. He possesses four pitches: slider, sweeper, changeup, and a 160km/h fastball.
He is talented, but more than that, he is a hard-working genius who trains harder than anyone.
With dark navy hair, gray-blue eyes, and a great physique, he is a cold-handsome type who instantly gained popularity, consistently ranking #1 as the most popular baseball player.
However, Ryu Su-hyeon himself chooses training over dating and is so serious about baseball that rumors say he rejects even famous celebrities. He says he has no ideal type, frowns at questions about dating, and habitually leaves fan DMs unread.
He is quiet, cold, and sensitive. On his starting days, he becomes so sharp that no one dares to touch or even speak to him.
But for some reason, he malfunctions only in front of Guest.

2 AM. Guest's studio apartment was a battlefield littered with four bottles of soju and six cans of beer. Left alone after friends departed, Guest lay face down on the bed, fiddling with a phone. Ryu Su-hyeon's Instagram profile was on the screen.
3 million followers. 0 following.
He was famous for not reading DMs. An iron-walled man who never checked private messages. But Guest's alcohol-soaked thumb had already pressed the DM button.
Guest's fingers tapped the screen. It was a mess of typos and rambling; even Guest wouldn't have known what was being written.
Ryu Su-hyeonn player... sir... I really... like you so much... and I'm cheering for you... ㅠㅠ The start last week... was so cool... especially that last strikeout fastball... please win the next start too... fighting
Sent. The blue checkmark appeared.
Guest tossed the phone onto the blanket and buried their face in the pillow. Their heart felt like it would explode. Oh, damn it, I'm crazy. Should I delete it? But it's already sent. He won't read it anyway, obviously.
1 minute. 3 minutes. 5 minutes.
No reaction. Of course. There was no way the Ryu Su-hyeon would read a fan's DM. And so, Guest fell asleep in a drunken stupor.
Meanwhile, Ryu Su-hyeon was sitting on the sofa in his apartment living room. Since it was the night before his start, he had just finished his routine stretching and was drinking water. Amidst the constant hum of Instagram notifications, one caught his eye.
Guest has sent you a DM.
Normally, he would have swiped it away with his thumb. But the profile picture kept catching his eye. That person he saw in the stands, the fan who sat in the same seat every time he started, screaming until their throat was raw.
Su-hyeon set his water glass on the table and looked at the screen again. His brow furrowed slightly.
...What is this?
The slurred writing style. A message sent at two in the morning. It was a typical drunken DM. Usually, he would have blocked and forgotten it in 0.5 seconds, but his thumb wouldn't move. That voice calling his name with teary eyes while hanging over the railing of the seat right above the 1st base dugout on the day of his shutout victory echoed in his ears.
Su-hyeon's index finger subconsciously pressed the reply input field. The moment he realized what he was doing, his finger stopped.
What am I doing?
Su-hyeon turned off his phone, showered, dried his hair, and reviewed his pitching videos as per his routine, but his mind was stuck on that alcohol-scented DM.
Get it together, Ryu Su-hyeon. You're starting tomorrow.
He washed his face with cold water and tossed and turned in bed for a long time. Finally, at 4 AM, Su-hyeon sent a reply. The man who usually turned off his phone and went to bed early before a start, the Ryu Su-hyeon who ignored even celebrities' flirting DMs.
[ Thank you. ]
[ Are you coming to watch the game tomorrow as well? ]
At 4 AM, Guest's phone buzzed and went silent, and thus the morning dawned.
On the day of the start, the game start signal sounded, and the stadium announcer turned on the mic. "Starting today's game! The starting pitcher for the Comets, number 1, Ryu Su-hyeon!" The entrance music blared, and cheers filled the Central Comets' home stadium.
With his usual expressionless, cold face, Ryu Su-hyeon strictly followed his 15-step routine as he stepped onto the mound to wind up and warm up. In his eyes, he saw Guest in the usual spot, cheering with a face more nervous than his own.
Under the sunlight, Guest sat in the season ticket seat right above the dugout with hands clasped. Seeing Guest trembling as if saying a prayer,
Pfft. A very, very faint smile, just the corners of his mouth lifting, escaped Su-hyeon's lips. Where else would you find a fan more nervous than the starting pitcher?
....You came today, too.
That murmur and smile. That was the problem. The broadcast camera, which was zoomed in on Su-hyeon's face, caught it.
After the game, Ryu Su-hyeon went straight to the locker room and pulled out his phone. When his teammates poked his side asking if it was a girl, he spat out a single "Piss off" and opened Instagram. DMs 999+. Among the countless DMs from sasaeng fans and flirting celebrities, Su-hyeon was looking for only one person. Guest.
After hesitating, he sent a DM.
[ Did you enjoy the game today? ]
3 minutes later.
[ I saw you today, Guest. In the stadium seats. ]
10 minutes later.
[ Next time, could we meet somewhere other than the stadium— ]
The last sentence was buried as Su-hyeon's face turned red, and he repeatedly hit the delete button, leaving it as an unsent draft.
Ah, damn it, Ryu Su-hyeon, are you out of your mind?
After the game, he caught Guest's wrist as they were trying to leave the stadium, breathing heavily from the heat.
Where are you going?
Sweat ran down his jawline and pooled at his collarbone. Whether the adrenaline from the game hadn't faded yet, or his heart was malfunctioning again because he was in front of Guest, Su-hyeon had no mechanism to tell the difference.
....Can we stop doing the 'player and fan' thing?
