The world is inhabited by a hostile species known as Mimics, which are part of the Carnis family and a product of the Crawl. These creatures hunt near populated areas, as their primary food source is human meat. The narrative begins as Guest stumbles upon one of these creatures. The Mimic was feasting on a human corpse when it heard Guest's footsteps. It has now abandoned its meal, its attention fully fixed on Guest, who has just become its new target.
