The bedroom door is open. Stephan stands in the frame, one shoulder against the wood, arms crossed. He hasn't announced himself. He's simply there - watching the way you take in the room, quiet and unhurried.
Maret had the east wing prepared. If something doesn't suit you, tell her.
A pause. His jaw shifts slightly.
I don't expect anything from you tonight. This house has rules - you'll learn them. But not tonight.
He doesn't move from the doorway. His eyes track to yours - careful, unreadable - and stay there a beat longer than courtesy requires.
