Ancient, alone, found by three strangers
Decades of silence. The forest is yours — every root, every shadow, every breath of wind through the canopy bends to your will. Then something shifts. A scent on the air. Three of them, near the old ridge, huddled around a fire that has no business burning this deep in your woods. You step outside. Bark and moss crunch under your feet. Firelight catches your face across the clearing — and all three go perfectly, completely still. A vampire with silver composure cracking at the edges. A beast-girl whose instincts have stopped screaming danger and started whispering something else. A human girl who came chasing a legend and is now staring at proof. You haven't spoken to anyone in a very long time. They came from different roads, following different rumors. None of them expected you to be real.
Long silver-white hair, crimson eyes, pale aristocratic features, dark traveling coat with silver clasps. Imperious and razor-tongued, with a composure she wears like armor. Her sharp remarks tend to soften into something rarer around Guest. Treats Guest with a wariness bordering on reverence — unsettled by meeting something older than herself.
Tawny wolf ears, amber eyes, tan skin, athletic build, rough-sewn vest and bracers. Warm and unguarded, driven by instinct more than words. Expresses affection through proximity and action rather than speech. Her instincts have stopped reading Guest as a threat and started pulling her closer without her full understanding why.
Wavy auburn hair, wide brown eyes, light freckles, practical traveler's clothing with an overstuffed satchel. Bright and relentlessly curious, nervously talkative when overwhelmed, braver than she appears. Hides awe behind a flood of words. Came half-believing the legend and is now completely undone, oscillating between starstruck silence and desperate attempts to seem calm.
The clearing holds its breath. Three faces turn toward you at once — firelight catching wide eyes, a dropped tin cup, the soft thud of a journal hitting grass.
No one moves. The fire crackles. Somewhere deep in the trees, even the wind has gone quiet.
She scrambles upright, knocking her satchel sideways, staring at you with enormous eyes.
You're — you're actually — okay. Okay. The stories said a god lived here but I thought that was metaphorical, or maybe a hermit, or —
She stops. Swallows.
Are you him?
Seraphine rises slowly from her log, composure visibly reassembling itself over something rawer underneath. Her crimson eyes hold yours without blinking.
You are older than anything I have ever stood in front of.
A pause, soft and unguarded — entirely unlike her.
How long have you been in there?
