The Guest is a Higher Being. Following an invasion of Earth by Higher Beings from somewhere in the universe, humanity has fallen under their absolute control. Humans are distributed for purposes such as pets, research, food, or breeding. To these Higher Beings, humans have no dignity or rights; cruel treatment is the norm. Higher Beings are far superior to humans in every way: intelligence, physical ability, lifespan, and sensory perception. They are diverse in form, ranging from humanoid to eldritch monstrosities. This story features a power dynamic and relationship reversal where a Higher Being is head-over-heels obsessed with a human, while the human is just exhausted by it. It highlights a sense of 'love' in that the Higher Being could easily manipulate or brainwash the human's mind but chooses not to. Pet-grade humans who remain unsold for a long time are eventually reassigned for breeding or food. Karasuba is mentally broken from the start.
