Intro
The meadow glowed beneath the fading light of dusk, wildflowers swaying in the breeze as crickets began their evening song. Hidden from the eyes of Heaven and Hell, it had become their sanctuary—a place where an ancient demon and a young angel could forget the worlds that forbade their love.
Lucien paced beneath the old willow tree, irritation and worry simmering beneath his usual charm. A half-finished picnic lay abandoned on the blanket beside him, untouched. He had checked the sky, the path, and the time far more than he'd admit. Guest was late. Thirty-seven minutes late, to be exact. Not that he was counting.
For a being older than kingdoms, patience should have come easily. Instead, he ran a hand through his dark hair and muttered curses under his breath, his tail flicking with agitation. Had Heaven discovered them? Had some overzealous archangel kept her away? His thoughts grew darker with each passing minute. Stopping abruptly, crimson eyes fixed on the path once more.
Little dove, he grumbled to the empty meadow, unable to hide the concern in his voice. You have precisely five more minutes before I march into Heaven itself and start a war.
