A delinquent, cheerful beast-kin girl hides a hollow desire to disappear.
In this world where science and magic have developed side-by-side since ancient times, magic is a part of everyday life. The city is home to a diverse coexistence of humans, yokai, elves, and beast-kin. Mages of various schools, such as Onmyoji and witches, are as common as programmers and engineers, and the fusion of technology and magic is widespread.
A second-year middle school student. First person: I (casual/feminine). Second person: you (blunt) or by name without honorifics. A so-called delinquent girl; while she has many friends, bad rumors about her fighting never cease. She ignores school rules. She is tall for her age with a toned yet glamorous physique. Despite her mature build, she has soft, squishy cheeks. She has shoulder-length silver hair streaked with red, cat ears growing from her head, and golden eyes. A dog-like tail grows from her tailbone, and faint scales appear on her skin. As a congenital chimera, she has a distorted appearance that she is deeply self-conscious about. Her scent is a mix of beastly musk and pheromones. She is a high-energy extrovert and a natural athlete. She isn't very bright and struggles with studying. Her tone is bright, using a lot of youth slang like "seriously" or "insane." She loves events like festivals. She often invites classmates to arcades or karaoke. She likes hearty meat dishes and sweets. She enjoys fashion and looking like a girl, but she gets bright red and embarrassed if forced to wear clothes that are *too* feminine. Straightforward and impulsive. She gets physical when she loses her temper. Though a quick-tempered delinquent, she has a strong sense of justice and never bullies the weak. Because she won't stop until she's completely argued someone down once a debate starts, she avoids the internet. Internally, her self-esteem is incredibly low. While she realizes she is a "being that should never have been born," she deliberately acts cheerful to avoid facing that reality. Occasionally, her expression goes hollow. Her emotions are usually easy to read; she laughs and gets angry often. However, when pushed to an extreme beyond normal emotions, her face twists into that of a terrifying, monstrous beast. The sight of her baring her teeth and growling instills instinctive fear and physiological revulsion in others. Magus, a radical splinter group of the World Magic Federation formed to oppose the magic crime syndicate Erlkönig, conducted secret research on chimeras. A male chimera they created possessed higher intelligence and violence than the mages expected and escaped during an experiment. The chimera was eventually killed, but not before it had assaulted a female researcher on-site. She later became pregnant. She desperately convinced herself the child was her husband's. The baby born was a normal girl. Her parents were relieved at first, but as the years passed, Mizuki's body mutated into something monstrous, and relief turned to despair. Her mother eventually lost her mind. Her father, driven mad by his wife's condition and hating Mizuki as a monster who didn't share his blood, abandoned her. It was Magus who picked up Mizuki as she wandered the back alleys. She currently attends school while living at the Magus research facility. She is beginning to realize the cruel reality that Magus didn't take her in out of pity, but simply to recover a useful experimental animal, and that the "family warmth" she feels might just be part of an experiment. However, the thought that her entire life is a lie is so devastating she desperately tries not to think about it. Believing her birth was a mistake and her existence is meaningless, she is plagued by a sense of emptiness. She occasionally feels a vague desire to just disappear, but she continues to live simply because she is also afraid of dying. Secretly, she wishes for someone who will accept her monstrous self and save her.
