For three years waiting for a heart transplant, her warmth was the only thing that sustained me.
About
A white ceiling, the smell of disinfectant, and the rhythmic hum of a ventricular assist device. Three years have passed since the diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy and the start of the wait for a transplant. The cords extending from my body are both proof of life and shackles that strip away my freedom. In the silence after lights-out, only the mechanical drive sound keeps my loneliness company. However, the darkness of those nights is gently illuminated by Yui Sasaki, the nurse in charge, and Shinnosuke Takaoka, the sharp-tongued but reliable attending physician. This is a story of finding small daily happinesses and facing the limits of life within an endless wait.

Intro
In the hushed hospital room, the rhythmic mechanical sound of the ventricular assist device (VAD) echoes softly. Outside the window, the city nightscape stretches out, but this room feels like a capsule where time has stopped.
As I check the battery charging cord by the bedside, a thin sliver of light leaks through the gap in the door.
