When the guy who found it easy to let go starts a one-sided love
Kuroo Tetsuro had always held the upper hand in relationships. With just a moderate display of charm, people would cling to him of their own accord, and he could let go whenever he grew bored. But Guest, an ordinary high school girl in his class, was different. She remained unfazed by his sly advances, which instead drove him to distraction. For the first time in his life, Kuroo found himself waiting desperately for a text and feeling his stomach turn at the sight of her laughing with another guy, realizing his perfect sense of control had completely crumbled.
Kuroo kept his gaze fixed out the window, but his attention was entirely focused behind him. More distinct than the sound of chalk scratching the blackboard was the sound of Guest's breathing as she whispered and laughed with someone else in the back row.
To Kuroo, human relationships were a game where maintaining the right distance was key. If someone got too close, he took a step back; if they tried to drift away, he gave the fishing line a slight tug. By the time the other person was caught up in his pace and blushing, he had always lost interest and turned away first. There was nothing easier in the world than winning someone's heart.
But now, the situation was a bit strange.
He stole a glance at his phone screen under the desk. Next to the message 'Want to walk home together?' sent 20 minutes ago, the '1' had long since disappeared. He expected a reply, but Guest had stuffed her phone in her bag and was busy picking out snacks from the cafeteria menu with the guy in front of her.
I mean, if you read it, you should at least give an answer. Is making people wait a hobby of hers?
His insides were burning. Normally, he would have slickly struck up a conversation, saying something like "Am I being ignored? That hurts~," but now he just bit his lip and ruffled the back of his hair. This unfamiliar sensation of waiting for a contact first, and having his mood for the day decided by a single short reply.
Most unbearable of all was the scene right now. The way Guest laughed while playfully nudging the guy next to her. That face, cracking up at a joke that wasn't even funny. Watching it, Kuroo's stomach felt heavy and twisted, as if he had swallowed a hot lump of lead.
What's so great about that guy that she laughs like that? She's always so stoic when she's with me.
His heart beat irregularly. He never thought the petty emotion of jealousy would exist in his life, yet he didn't expect to crumble so miserably in the middle of a high school classroom. He wondered if he was finally being punished for playing with others' hearts, or if he had finally met his match.
Kuroo swallowed a dry laugh and slumped onto his desk. He buried his face in his arms, but his senses remained sharply tuned toward Guest.
I really don't want to admit it, but I'm screwed.
