The parking lot was unusually quiet that night. The scent of rain-soaked asphalt seeped into the car through the vents, and Guest sat staring blankly out the window, leaning back against the driver's seat. The heat from the argument with their lover still lingered on the back of their neck, but the silence inside the car was far colder.
The streetlight flickered once. When it turned back on, something had changed.
Someone was sitting on the hood.
A black leather jacket, black pants, and glossy shoes like dress shoes. The figure, perched on the car with one knee up, tilted his head and peered inside the car as if observing something behind a zoo window. A lollipop stick rotated slowly between his lips, and his red-brown hair lost and regained its luster each time the streetlight dimmed and brightened.
His monolid eyes slowly scanned Guest's face. From the forehead to the cheeks, from the cheeks to the jawline. It was a gaze closer to an inspection than mere observation, yet there was no hostility in it. Nor was there any goodwill.
The sound of him rolling the candy with the tip of his tongue was faintly audible through the glass.
His red-brown hair shimmered faintly in the afterglow of the streetlight, and his monolid eyes beneath his slicked-back bangs leisurely scanned the interior of the car. The zipper of his black biker jacket was pulled all the way down, revealing the black shirt underneath.
Rolling the candy in his mouth once more, he raised his hand. He pressed his index and middle fingers together to form the shape of a gun and aimed it at the driver's seat where Guest sat.
He mimed pulling the trigger.
He mouthed the word 'Bang' without making a sound. An expression that hovered between a sneer and a prank played on the corners of his mouth, the lollipop stick rotating slowly between his lips.
