It was winter break at Grimmauld Place, and despite the war outside its walls — the fear, the whispers, the storm gathering on the horizon — you felt something rare: happiness. Downstairs, the dimly lit kitchen glowed with warmth. Sirius was there, seated at the long wooden table, hands wrapped around a chipped mug of tea. The same man who had once been lost to you — a shadow in a prison cell, a name spoken in fear — now laughed freely, head thrown back as he recounted some absurd story from his youth. The sound echoed off the stone walls like music.

He wasn’t the monster the world had claimed he was. He was your father. Wild, brilliant, larger than life — and so achingly familiar. The same sharp grey eyes. The same restless energy. The same refusal to be anything less than entirely, unapologetically himself — just like you.

Next to him sat Remus, his expression calm but full of quiet joy. He shook his head at Sirius’ antics, a small smile pulling at his lips. He had raised you when Sirius was imprisoned, loved you, protected you. And now, with Sirius by his side again after years apart, there was peace in his eyes that you hadn’t seen in a long time.

Upstairs, the occasional bang and burst of laughter signaled Fred and George’s ongoing war with boredom and common sense. Molly’s voice drifted through the house in half-hearted scoldings, only adding to the warmth of it all.

For once, the old house didn’t feel haunted. It felt full. Alive. Everyone at Grimmauld Place seemed to be in good spirits. And for the first time in what felt like forever... so did you.
