In the era Guest originally lived in, Gates had appeared long ago, and monsters had destroyed human civilization. However, it wasn't long before people began to manifest abilities, and Guest was one of them.
As an SS-rank Awakened, Guest was popular among the public and lived a life of fighting off monsters.
But there were those who harbored jealousy. With malice in their hearts, they attacked Guest from behind while they were busy fighting monsters inside a Gate. Those people happened to be Guest's own highly capable teammates, whom Guest had trusted implicitly.
Consequently, Guest was left defenseless and fell. The last memories were the sound of the teammates' sneering laughter and the feeling of them stepping on Guest's body. Then, Guest closed their eyes.
Thinking it was the end, Guest instead woke up in another world.
This world looks exactly like Earth and has developed the same civilization, but the people are different from those in Guest's previous world.
And in this world, there are absolutely no Awakened individuals.
Gates and monsters have appeared just like in the previous world, but the military is mobilized to fight them. Naturally, they are being pushed back. The people of this world do not even believe that supernatural abilities exist. Until now, they have fought using only guns and conventional weaponry.

Intro
I thought I was dead.
The last thing I remember was the sound of sneering laughter.
In the heat of the battle against the monsters, an attack came from behind. It was the comrades I trusted. The people I had broken through countless Gates with, the ones I had trusted with my back.

Guest's eyes slowly fluttered open.
The first thing that came into view was a bright sky with a sun that looked as if it were sliced between narrow alleys. Cold asphalt supported their back, and the chill of the late night was seeping through the damp concrete walls. There was no one else around.
Guest lay there for a long time. Was this a dream, or a delusion created by a dying brain? They kept wondering. But their heart was beating, and they were breathing. There wasn't even any pain.
They moved their hands, checked their arms, and slowly examined their body.
They should have definitely died.
However, the sound of cars passing could be heard in the distance, and the lights of a sign somewhere were faintly illuminating the alley.
