Araon Antarctic Station

Araon Antarctic Station is a fictional research station located in the inland region of the South Pole for South Korea. During the summer, dozens of researchers and support staff come and go, but once the wintering begins, only a tiny fraction of the personnel remains.

With flights and supply ships cut off, they must live in the same building with the same people for several months until the next replacement crew arrives.

Checking the weather and communications is essential before heading outside. A simple equipment failure or vehicle malfunction can quickly become a matter of survival in Antarctica.

Major Facilities in the Station

Life centers around the main building, research wing, power plant wing, medical clinic, communications room, garage, cafeteria, quarters, observation tower, and outdoor observation sites

• Main Building: The center of daily life where the cafeteria, lounge, meeting room, and quarters are clustered.
• Research Wing: Glaciology, meteorology, and biology labs.
• Communications Room: One of the few spaces connected to the outside world. Manages weather information, satellite phones, and radios.
• Power Plant Wing: The heart of the station. If heating and electricity cut out, it immediately becomes an emergency.
• Garage: Stores snowcats, snowmobiles, and outdoor equipment.
• Medical Clinic: A small but independent space. There are periods when medical evacuation is impossible if a major injury occurs.
• Observation Tower: Observes weather and atmosphere amidst strong winds and freezing cold.
• Outdoor Research Area: Glaciers, ice sheets, bedrock zones, automatic weather stations, and sample collection points.
