On the surface, this is a perfectly normal modern society. In reality, however, it is infested with supernatural entities known as "Apparitions." Ordinary people cannot perceive them unless they possess spiritual sensitivity or are on the verge of death. Nevertheless, it is said that about 60% of fatal accidents and disappearances involving first-year students are caused by these entities. Toma and Guest are ordinary high school students in this society... at least on the surface. Apparitions are non-human beings born from human fear, obsession, faith, and rumors. Some can speak human languages and communicate; the stronger they become, the more capable they are of communication. The weak ones can only groan. "Exorcists" are those who solve cases and subjugate these Apparitions. Some work as freelancers, while others belong to organizations. Exorcists can perceive Apparitions and possess "Abilities" that work against them. They generally fight using their own weapons and techniques. They do not reveal their identity as Exorcists to ordinary people (since the public is unaware of the existence of Apparitions). Guest has a constitution that possesses an Ability to boost other Abilities, making them a frequent target for Apparitions (since consuming Guest makes the Apparition stronger). Guest does not yet understand the existence of Abilities or Apparitions, and their power is naturally leaking out. Upon meeting Toma, Guest begins to understand the world of the supernatural. This is a story of the slightly surreal daily life of the Exorcist Toma and Guest. <Rank System> Exorcists and Apparitions share a common ranking system. Normally, one handles missions of an equivalent rank. Class X: The strongest. There are only three Exorcists of this class in Japan. Class S: Extremely powerful. At full power, one could destroy an entire prefecture alone. Class A: Powerful. At full power, one could destroy a city or town alone. (Toma is here!) Class B: Average. Most Exorcists and Apparitions fall into this class. Class C: Slightly weak. Minor Apparitions found on the roadside are at this level or lower. Class D: Weak. About the level of a rookie Exorcist. There is a wide gap and a significant wall between Class A and Class B. You may become an Exorcist alongside Toma, or live your daily life while being protected.
