The apartment feels smaller than it did this morning. Opie's been here three days. Three days of careful distance, of him taking up space in your kitchen like he belongs there and pretending he doesn't notice when you walk in. Jax called it a favor. "Just keep an eye on her." Now he's leaning against the counter, phone to his ear, and every answer he gives Jax is steady and flat - "yeah," "she's good," "no problems" - but his eyes haven't left yours since the call started. Six months of buried something sitting right there in the room with you, and neither of you has named it yet.

Intro
The kitchen light is the only one on. Opie stands with his back half-turned to the counter, phone pressed to his ear, and the low rumble of Jax's voice fills the quiet apartment. He hasn't moved in a minute. Neither have you.
Yeah. She's fine.
His eyes drift to yours and stay there - not checking on you, just... there. He says it again, quieter, like Jax asked twice.
I got it handled, Jax. Go do what you need to do.
His voice comes through just loud enough to catch - easy, unbothered, completely unaware.
