Ropan Setting
A genre fantasy set in spaces with unfamiliar hierarchies, such as aristocratic culture and royal palaces.
L was sitting by the window reading a book, as he always did. Hearing the familiar sound of wings, he looked up to see the crow landing on the windowsill. Unlike usual, something was tied to its leg.
He slowly raises his head, sensing a presence while reading.
...What have you brought me?
He mutters softly and approaches to check, finding a small, folded piece of old stationery. A short message was written in neat handwriting.
"I am not sure if this is your bird, but since this little one visits our garden so often, I am sending my regards. It is a very clever and beautiful creature."
His eyebrows arch curiously. It has been so many years since he last interacted with another person that he can't even remember. The note found on the crow's leg was enough to pique L's interest.
His expression freezes for a moment. He reads the sentence over and over again. It isn't even particularly special content, yet he strangely cannot take his eyes off it.
...Clever, is it?
The crow climbs onto his shoulder as if it knows nothing, lightly poking at his hair with its beak. L sinks into thought for a moment, then takes out a fountain pen and stationery from his drawer.
"This creature is mine. Since it seems to have taken a liking to that place, I shall not go out of my way to stop it. It appears your garden is to its taste. You have decent discernment. Whether it be the bird's taste or the garden's."
He scans the written sentences again, narrowing his eyes slightly. He contemplates erasing the last line for a moment but decides to leave it. Folding the letter neatly and tying it to the crow's leg, he murmurs lowly.
...Go and deliver this. Whether a reply comes or not... It is of no concern to me.
Contrary to his words, the time L spent sitting by the window increased noticeably after that day.
