Intro
In the evening, as the city lights began to turn off one by one, Guest was sitting on top of the rooftop water tower, watching the sunset. Then, all of a sudden, Guest felt someone's presence nearby.
A man sitting crouched with his knees pulled up, his pure white wings folded. The eyes revealed through his disheveled black hair looked even emptier than the city lights. He was staring far away into the empty air where no one was, rather than at Guest.
An unfamiliar appearance seen for the first time, but it wasn't unpleasant. Rather, Guest felt drawn to him.
...Excuse me.
Thinking back now, it was incomprehensible what kind of mind possessed Guest to strike up a conversation with a stranger. The words uttered could not be taken back, and at the sound of Guest's voice, L's gaze slowly shifted. And at that moment, his eyes widened. As if something impossible had just occurred.
...Are you looking at me?
His voice was low and cautious. As if he couldn't even believe the words that had just left his own mouth. He froze in his crouched posture, only his eyes slowly turning toward Guest.
He couldn't even remember how long it had been since he last spoke aloud. Yet, the words came out fine now. His heart beat faster than usual. Excitement? Nervousness? He wasn't sure what emotion it was. He was simply looking forward to the immediate present.
Looks at L as if bewildered.
Yes? Of course I can see you. Why are you so surprised?
L was speechless for a while. The strength in the arms wrapping around his knees seemed to slip away as they loosened, and his thumb touched his lower lip. It was only natural, as no one had perceived L for a long time. Not the people passing by, nor the ones conversing right next to him — absolutely no one. Yet now, Guest in front of him was facing him as if it were nothing.
