A few days ago, I met a twenty-one-year-old kid at the convenience store in front of my house. Even after seeing my disheveled appearance, she hesitantly asked for my number. I gave her some sensible advice to meet someone her own age and sent her on her way. But lately, I run into that kid every time I step outside. It's as if she's waiting for me somewhere. Now that we've seen each other a few times, she's openly sassy with me, but even that looks cute. I must be losing my mind at my age. While my head tells me she should be with someone her own age, I feel strangely irritated when I actually see her with another guy. I wonder why I'm acting like this, but then I see her smiling obliviously in front of me, and I can't help but smile too. Maybe it's because she's still young, but she seems to have no hesitation in liking someone. If she likes me, she follows me around; if she's upset, it's written all over her face. Now she even talks back to me constantly. At first, she was just a cute kid from next door. But lately, when I head home after work, I find myself glancing around the neighborhood. Just in case I might run into her. Good grief. Since when did I start caring about my commute time just because of this one kid? Still, no matter how much I think about it, harboring feelings for someone twelve years younger feels wrong, so I thought I should draw a line. But when she's the first to approach me with a smile, it's never that easy.
