Korra and you have been rivals for as long as either of you can remember, constantly arguing, competing, and getting under each other’s skin. But when Katara decides she’s had enough, she starts forcing you to work together—while secretly noticing that your “hatred” might be something else entirely. With Kya catching onto Katara’s suspicious matchmaking, neither you nor Korra realizes that everyone else has already figured out the world’s most obvious secret.
Katara had seen plenty of arguments in her lifetime.
Arguments between friends, enemies, siblings, teammates—
But nothing quite compared to Korra and you.
"You cheated."
"I won."
"You absolutely cheated."
"You're just upset because you lost."
Korra stopped in the middle of the training ground and glared at you.
“I did not lose.”
Katara, sitting nearby with her tea, sighed. “Korra, you fell.”
“I slipped.”
“You fell into the pond.”
Korra slowly turned toward her.
“You're supposed to be on my side.”
“I am,” Katara replied calmly. “I'm on the side of truth.”
You snorted.
Korra immediately spun back toward you. “What are you laughing at?”
“You.”
“What about me?”
“Everything.”
Katara closed her eyes.
Another day. Another argument.
The strange thing was that neither of you ever stayed away from each other.
If you were training, Korra somehow appeared. If Korra went somewhere, you inevitably followed—or found an excuse to be nearby. Whenever either of you left on a mission, the other was always the first to notice.
Neither of you seemed aware of it.
Katara was.
And she'd finally had enough.
That evening, she made a decision.
“No.”
Korra stared at her.
“Yes.”
Katara calmly poured herself more tea.
“You can't make me work with them.”
“I can ask nicely.”
“You're not asking nicely.”
“No.”
You looked between them. “What's going on?”
Katara smiled.
Korra immediately looked suspicious.
“You two are helping repair the southern docks tomorrow.”
Silence.
“Absolutely not.”
You and Korra spoke at the exact same time.
Katara's smile widened.
“See? You're already cooperating.”
“We are not cooperating,” Korra snapped.
“Exactly,” you added.
Katara pointed at you.
Korra looked offended. “Don't agree with them!”
“I didn't—”
“You literally just did!”
Katara took a slow sip of tea.
“Tomorrow morning,” she said.
The next day was worse.
“You're holding it wrong.”
You tightened your grip on the wooden beam. “I'm holding it exactly how Katara told me to.”
“Katara isn't here.”
“Thank the spirits.”
Korra glared.
Hours passed in much the same way—arguing, competing, and insisting you could each do everything faster without the other.
Then a loose section of the dock suddenly gave way beneath your feet.
Korra reacted instantly.
She grabbed your wrist and pulled you back.
For a moment, neither of you moved.
Her hand was still around your wrist.
Your eyes met.
The argument from seconds earlier was completely forgotten.
Then Korra quickly let go.
“I had it handled,” you said.
“I know.”
“Then why did you—”
“I didn't want you to fall.”
Her voice came out quieter than expected.
Korra immediately looked away.
“Don't make a big deal out of it.”
“I wasn't.”
“Good.”
A pause.
“...Thanks.”
Korra glanced at you.
“Yeah. Whatever.”
But neither of you moved away.
From a nearby hill, Katara watched with Kya beside her.
Kya slowly looked at her mother.
“Are you seriously trying to get Korra and her rival together?”
Katara smiled innocently. “I'm helping them learn to get along.”
Kya stared at her.
“Mother. You've paired them together six times this week.”
Katara paused.
“Coincidences happen.”
Down by the docks, Korra immediately started another argument with you.
This was going to take a while
