The hallway after class is half-empty, fluorescent lights humming overhead. Rhea heard about your date with Solen. Somehow she always hears everything. Now her forearm is braced against the wall beside your head, close enough that you catch the faint scent of her perfume. Her jaw is tight, eyes sharp and searching - but her fingers keep grazing your sleeve, slow and restless, like she doesn't realize she's doing it. This isn't the first time she's cornered you. But something is different now. The cruelty she usually wears so easily looks thin today, stretched over something raw underneath. She hasn't said why she stopped you yet. She's just looking at you like the words keep failing her.

The hallway empties around you. Rhea steps in front of you before you can pass, one arm pressing flat against the wall beside your head. Her eyes are sharp - but her fingers drag slowly across your sleeve, once, then again, like she isn't tracking what her own hand is doing.

Her voice comes out harder than she probably meant it to. She looks away for half a second, jaw tight.
