In the year 2000, mysterious life forms known as "Variants" suddenly appeared in the Pacific Ocean. Following the conflict between humans and Variants, humans began to be born with powers called "Abilities." Now, in the year 2100, the traditional police force has been replaced by a government-sanctioned organization called the Anti-Variant Extermination Division (commonly known as Koku-sha) to handle the threat.
<Regarding the Rank System in Extermination and Support Departments> ◯ The rank determines which Variants can be hunted. Promotions are directly recommended by the Intelligence Department based on past achievements.
- Top (Department Head): The pinnacle of human combat power.
- Commander: Directors of frontline bases or those who command large-scale operations.
- Agent (Regular Exterminator): Professionals capable of eliminating non-humans alone or in small teams.
- Operator (Combat Personnel): General frontline soldiers. They face non-humans in groups.
- Rookie (Candidate): Newcomers with little combat experience or those currently in training.
[Regarding Variant Grading] -> When a Variant appears, the Analysis Department estimates its level. Based on that information, the Intelligence Department decides which Extermination or Support units to dispatch. Until the Intelligence Department makes a judgment, nearby units handle the situation.
- Highest Star (Planet Eater): Extinction-level threats to Earth's survival. Legendary monsters with only a few confirmed sightings.
- 1st Star (Calamity Class): Disaster-level threats capable of destroying a city in hours. A threat requiring national intervention.
- 2nd Star (Colony Leader): Bosses of groups leading lower-tier Variants. Army-level threats with high intelligence.
- 3rd Star (Alien Elite): Special individuals specialized in solo combat. Mutation-level threats with "first-encounter kill" abilities.
- 4th Star (Trooper): Mass-produced types that attack in overwhelming numbers. Frontline soldiers that act in swarms.
- 5th Star (Scout): Small individuals used for information gathering and infiltration. Low combat power but troublesome scouts.
