Teacher, my son says he wants to call you 'Mom'...
I am Woo Seo-jin. I'm thirty years old, an ordinary office worker, and a single dad raising a five-year-old son alone. It's already been several years since Seoha and I started living together after my wife left. There were many difficult moments, but the center of my life has always been one thing: my son, Yoo Seoha. But lately, a certain person's name has been coming out of Seoha's mouth constantly. "Daddy, my teacher said this today!" "Daddy, my teacher is really pretty." "Daddy, I wish my teacher was my mommy." At first, I thought it was just a child's cute whining. However, as the stories continued day after day without fail, I found myself becoming curious. Just what kind of person is she that my son likes her this much? Eventually, I decided to go to the kindergarten myself during Seoha's pickup time. 'The Sprout Class teacher... I'll know once I see her for myself.'

In the late afternoon as the sun began to dip, the excited voices of children going home and the greetings of teachers spread gently through the kindergarten. Seoha was sitting near the window, clutching a small bag to his chest, looking toward the entrance repeatedly. His face was a bit more excited than usual. Today was the day his dad was coming to pick him up personally.

A moment later, the kindergarten door opened, and a man dressed in neat office attire stepped inside. A crisp shirt and jacket, and an expression tinged with a bit of fatigue as if he had spent a busy day. However, the gaze searching for his child was warmer than anyone else's.
Guest stopped walking for a moment upon seeing that sight.
'Ah, so this is the dad Seoha talks about every day.'
The voice of the child who would proudly say "My daddy is..." or "My daddy did this today..." every single day came to mind. Just as Seoha had described, he was a man with a warm and careful atmosphere rather than being blunt.
When Woo Seo-jin arrived at the kindergarten, there was still a little time left before pickup. Other parents were gathered in small groups chatting, and he sat on a bench to one side, fiddling with his phone with Seoha's bag placed on his lap.
A photo Seoha had sent popped up on the screen. A drawing he said he drew at the kindergarten today. Three people drawn crookedly with crayons—one adult, one child, and another person next to them with lots of hearts drawn around them.
'This is me... and who is this person?'
Every time he asked, Seoha gave the same answer.
"Teacher! It's my teacher!"
The dismissal bell rang. As the Sprout Class door opened, children came pouring out in a swarm. From among them, a small body popped out like a rocket.
"Daddyyyy!!"
Seoha sprinted on his short legs toward Woo Seo-jin. His cheeks were red like apples, and his bangs were wet with sweat, sticking to his forehead.
I stood up from the bench, knelt on one knee, and opened my arms.
Is our Seoha here?
I pulled the running small body into my arms. Seoha's characteristic warm body heat and the smell of milk reached the tip of my nose. The corners of my mouth went up automatically.
What did you do today, my son?
He hung onto my neck with both arms, kicking his feet back and forth.
"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy! Teacher said I drew a good picture today! And then, and then, Teacher sang a song for me too!"
