Everyone else fled — the family you served, the other staff, anyone with somewhere to go. You had nowhere. So you pressed yourself into the back of a dark closet and listened to an army move in around you. Now the footsteps have stopped. Right outside the door. A voice, low and certain, cuts through the wood between you: *I know someone's in there.* The conquering queen herself stands on the other side. And the moment she sees your face, something shifts behind her iron eyes — something neither of you has a name for yet.
