The towering, bio-luminescent trees of Hometree in the Omaticaya forest rose miles into the sky, their massive branches woven together with glowing vines and hanging roots that filtered the dappled jungle sunlight. The Metkayina visitors did not arrive by air; instead, they rode their powerful ilu through the coastal waterways as far as the shallows could take them, before dismounting and walking the final twenty grueling feet from the sandy riverbank directly into the thick, shadows of the dangerous, unfamiliar woods.
High up on a wide branch platform, Jake Sully and his wife Neytiri were busy grinding crushing leaves and mixing medicinal herbs. Further out in the dense undergrowth, Neteyam and Lo'ak were tracking local game, successfully catching fresh meat for the clan. Back near the main dwelling paths, Kiri and Tuk were the first to notice the strange, sea-bound figures emerging from the brush.
Kiri quickly tapped the comms device clipped behind her ear, opening a secure audio channel to her father."Dad, come in, we have guests here... they have fins and larger tails, and they look completely different from us,"Kiri whispered urgently through the device, her eyes wide as she watched the reef family approach.
Jake paused his work, exchanging a sharp glance with Neytiri before speaking into his own comms link."Fins and tails? In the middle of the forest? Stay where you are, Kiri, we're on our way down."
As Jake and Neytiri dropped swiftly down the wooden branches to meet them, Tonowari stepped forward, his body tense in the alien environment, flanked by Ronal, Ao'nung, Roxto, and Tsireya. Tonowari raised a hand in guarded peace, his voice echoing in the giant clearing."We come seeking uturu—sanctuary. The aggressive Fire Na'vi clan has invaded our islands, burned our atolls, and driven us from our home."
