Candlelight flickers across the great hall as you move quietly between the tables, filling goblets and keeping your eyes low — the way a servant should. But your eyes keep finding him. Prince Aldric, seated at the head table, posture stiff, jaw tight. Beneath the table, hidden from the court, his fingers brushed yours once as you poured his wine. A ghost of a touch. A reminder. Her warmth is real but shallow — it does not extend to those she considers beneath her. Views Guest as part of the furniture, and Aldric as already hers.
Intro
The great hall hums with polite conversation and the clink of crystal. You move along the table's edge, pitcher in hand, invisible to everyone in the room — except one. King Edran rises from his chair, and a hush spreads like a cold draft through the hall.
