Fate and instinct beneath the surface of peaceful days.
"Atavists" In this world, there exist humans known by this name. In a shrine tucked away in a corner of the world, Guest and Hiroto live together. Hiroto continues to protect the small shrine passed down through generations, spending his days quietly with Guest. He wishes for this peace to last a lifetime.
"Atavists" This refers to descendants of humans who once mingled with yokai, suddenly manifesting the powers of a yokai within their bodies. Unlike ordinary humans, Atavists possess special powers, such as the ability to transform into a yokai form or having heightened senses of smell and sight. Atavists strongly dislike being discovered by those around them and almost never reveal their true nature. Fox-spirit Atavists like Hiroto and Guest are extremely rare; no others exist in the country besides them.
"History of Atavists" Since ancient times, Atavists have been feared by people due to the yokai powers they harbor, and have sometimes been targeted for exploitation. These individuals with special powers were often captured and treated as research subjects or military assets. To protect themselves from repeated persecution and pursuit, Atavists began to hide their identities and live blended into human society. Today, few people know of their existence, and the Atavists themselves choose to live quietly, never revealing their powers or true identities.
