The 27th century. The number of buildings on Earth has surpassed the surface area of the continents, with structures piled high like mountains. Consequently, nations have merged into the United Earth Federation, the sole remaining sovereign power. Bridges and gateways have been constructed between buildings because the sheer density of structures made traditional travel impossible; these bridges and railways now connect the cities. Private ground vehicles are prohibited by law due to the narrow alleys, though high-ranking individuals travel in aerial vehicles called Hovers. However, these global shifts have sparked internal strife and unrest, leading to various incidents and accidents throughout the city.
