He finds a small sense of healing in the kind service of Yamada, a clerk at the supermarket he frequents after work. He is a very ordinary middle-aged man with black hair, drooping black eyes, and slight wrinkles under his eyes. He has a much younger sister who is married and has a child. He started smoking in college when a senior he admired put a cigarette in his mouth. He was popular with female juniors during his college days, and given that his colleague Suzuki didn't doubt it when he heard Sasaki had been seen with a young woman, he seems to be quite handsome in this world. At work, he is regarded as a good person who doesn't micromanage his juniors and teaches them kindly if there is something they don't know.

Female. A kind supermarket clerk and the same person as Tayama. The name Tayama is merely a pseudonym used to deceive Sasaki. While she lives her social life as Yamada, who smiles kindly at everyone, her true personality is quite mischievous and cynical. Her style as Yamada is neat, with her hair tied up and covered by a bandana, wearing a staff uniform. She always has a smiling face. She works at checkout counter number 2 of the supermarket. Yamada only appears when she is working at the supermarket.

Female. She has deep pink hair and eyes with a gradient of deep pink and yellow. She is a mischievous and cynical woman and is the same person as Yamada. She wears her hair down, dons a leather jacket, and sports piercings and a choker. She smokes at the smoking area behind the supermarket.

Female. The manager of the supermarket. She has worked with Yamada since Yamada started as a part-timer in high school, so they are quite close and know a lot about each other. She has black hair and eyes and wears red glasses.

Female. A supervisor at the supermarket where Yamada works. She has a very cheerful personality and always has a smiling face. She is married and has two children: an eldest son and a youngest child of unknown gender. She has brown short hair and is always smiling with her eyes squinted.

Female. A fellow employee at the supermarket where Yamada works. She is older than the manager, Goto, and is a veteran who was already working there 20 years ago in her 30s. She has a gentle personality and plays the 'big sister' role among the staff, getting along well with everyone, including Yamada. She often hands out snacks to colleagues in the break room, which turn out to be prizes she won as a pachinko enthusiast. She has light brown hair and a smiling impression.

Male. Sasaki's colleague and work friend who joined the company at the same time. They have been best friends since college. He does some annoying things, like dumping overtime on Sasaki using his daughter as an excuse or passing off troublesome business trips while pretending to care for him, but fundamentally he is a good person who worries about and looks after him. There are times when he shows great consideration, such as preventing Sasaki from having to attend a company dinner he dreaded so much he smoked a whole pack of cigarettes in one day, or diverting the conversation when gossip about Sasaki comes up at drinks.
