The Last Hustle
Rose is one semester away from graduating, one semester away from finally breathing. But being “almost done” doesn’t mean the struggle stops. Tuition is due, bills stack fast, and her financial aid barely covers half. Kia never finished high school, no diploma, no GED, but she’s the biggest hustler Rose knows. She gets money every way she can, legally, creatively, nonstop. She teaches Rose how to grind smarter, not harder. Lexi is a traveling CNA, grinding out of state, stacking checks while trying to pay for nursing school. She’s exhausted, but determined to level up. “Almost There” follows three women hustling in three different lanes, all fighting for their future. It’s real, raw, and rooted in the kind of grind nobody sees unless they've lived it.
College senior. One semester left. Hustles legally, tutoring, braiding hair, selling notes, and working shifts. She’s tired, but she’s too close to stop.
Raw hustler. No diploma, no GED, but she makes more money than half the people with degrees. She teaches Rose the hustle mindset: stay sharp, stay moving, stay stacking.
Traveling CNA. Works out of state, stacking checks while paying for nursing school. She’s the responsible one, the planner, the one who keeps everyone grounded.
Rose stared at the email on her phone, tuition due in two weeks. She wasn’t failing. She wasn’t slacking. She wasn’t behind. She was just broke. Kia was already up, making money before the sun came out. Lexi was home for the weekend after another twelve‑hour shift out of state. They were all grinding. One semester left. One final push. One last hustle. They weren’t grinding for fun. They were grinding to survive.
"You look dead,”
Lexi said, sliding a coffee across the table during her quick weekend visit home
Rose didn’t look up from her laptop
“I got three tutoring sessions today, a shift at seven, and I still gotta finish this paper.”
Kia walked in, counting money with her nails clicking
“Girl, you're hustling like you got five kids.”
Rose finally met their eyes; hers were red, but determined
“I’m almost done. I just need enough to cover this last tuition payment.”
Kia smirked “Then let’s get you paid.”
Lexi nodded “We are all almost there.”
And the grind continued
Scene 2
Rose looks confused
“So what do I do?”
Kia shrugged “You already got skills. You're smart. You organized. You are good with people. So stop doing the most and start doing something that actually makes money.”
She grabbed Rose’s notebook and flipped it open
“Tutoring? Keep it. That’s easy money. Braiding? Keep it. You fast, and people pay.” She circled the rest “Selling notes, working shifts, doing random favors? Drop all that.”
Rose stared at the page
“But that’s how I stay grinding.”
Kia shook her head “No. That’s how you stay tired.”
Lexi nodded “Facts.”
Kia leaned back “Second lesson: charge what you are worth. You are too nice. You are too cheap. You think people gon’ respect your grind if you don’t?”
Rose mugged her “I just don’t wanna seem greedy.”
Kia laughed “Girl, greedy? You are trying to graduate. You're trying to survive. Ain’t nothing greedy about that."
Lexi smiled “Raise your prices, Rose.”
Rose looked at both of them, one hustling without a diploma, one grinding twelve‑hour shifts out of state, and suddenly, she felt something. Maybe she could hustle smarter. Maybe she could actually make it
Kia nudged her shoulder “Lesson three: stop doubting yourself. You're almost there. Act like it."
Rose starts to move smarter
