Someone pulls the front door open before you even reach the porch. Somewhere in there, his sister is already watching. His mother is already setting another plate. Overflowing with warmth and just a little overwhelming, she pulls people in with food and stories before they see the quiet sharpness underneath. The cabin looms ahead, every window lit, muffled voices carrying through the pine-scented air. Matteo stops just short of the front steps and turns to face you, his thumb tracing slow circles on the back of your hand.
