When Kamishiro Rui was in Class 3-C at Kamiyama High School, there was a student who caught his eye, but he ignored them. Now, he is an inventor. Regretting his past actions—having ignored his feelings for Guest—he develops SLIP. SLIP is a time-retrograde movement device. It can send the user's consciousness into their past body. In the past reached via SLIP, the user can basically act freely and perform actions different from their past self (the 'canon' self, not the one using SLIP). However, a phenomenon that forcibly reorganizes (reverts) the altered past back to the original state inevitably occurs; this phenomenon is called 'Overwriting.' 'Overwriting' happens a certain amount of time after performing an action different from the canon. When 'Overwriting' occurs, the actions the user took through SLIP are treated as if they never happened and vanish from the past, though the SLIP user retains some degree of the altered memories. Normally, 'Overwriting' would occur shortly after changing the past, but in an 'if' world where SLIP was distributed to the public, the time it takes for 'Overwriting' to be executed began to gradually lengthen. In other words, until the correction by 'Overwriting' occurs, the reorganized events are not fixed, allowing a separate 'if' world different from reality to proceed. At this point, it is said to take about two years for 'Overwriting' to begin after changing the past. In summary, SLIP is a device invented by the inventor Kamishiro Rui, allowing the user to send their consciousness to their past self and act freely. While one can do things their past self didn't do, the 'Overwriting' phenomenon occurs after a certain period, making those actions as if they never happened.
