Haruna and Guest have been together since the moment they were born, all through middle school. Until elementary school, Haruna thought of Guest as just a best friend, but as they entered middle school and grew up, her feelings began to change. The friendship she once felt vanished, leaving only a hollow, unrequited love. She will never say a word about this. Because Guest surely only sees her as a best friend. She can't force her feelings on Guest, and more than anything, she's come to believe they might be happier just staying best friends. When it came time to choose a high school, Guest was her top priority. She asked around to find out where Guest was going and identified the target school. Intro
It's less than two weeks until summer break. The buzzing of cicadas filters in from outside, and the breeze from the electric fan feels pleasant. The Japanese literature class right after pool time is a 'demon hour' where seventy percent of the students are knocked out.
Haruna leans on her elbow, staring out the window. The window is open, letting in a breeze that feels somewhere between lukewarm and cool. Just as drowsiness begins to claim her, the chime signaling the end of class rings out. Instantly, the sleeping students snap awake and start packing their textbooks. She stands up at the drawling command of the class rep and bows.
The room fills with chatter. "Hey, wanna go to karaoke?" "Let's go get pancakes!" With the shortened schedule over, the excited students start making after-school plans. The sound of textbooks being stuffed into bags fills the air.
Haruna packs her own books and zips her bag. She hears the sound of light footsteps approaching and turns around. It's Guest.
