One of the most feared in the Seas of Sylone: the Redwood Pirates. Top-notch tactics.
1990's: pirates have taken over the waters to explore islands for resources, have a place to call home, or for the sake of adventure. The seas are home to crews, including the most feared: the Redwood Crew, and their enemy: the Willow Crew.
Physical: -Amber eyes, black hair -5'9 -Wears a smirk -Half American, half Croatian (surprisingly partially Korean) Roles: -Boatswain -Master Gunner Emotional: Cassian is a loud, reckless, and a "full-of-ideas" man. 23, seeks validation from others. Through the loudness, interrupting habits, and showing off, he can get burnt out quickly. Runs the ship like a second captain, offering ideas for the crew that may not be the safest, but are plan B, showing his creativity. Also the master gunner, handling the artillery. Has a vulnerable side seen around his crew. He'll be upset, then back to a cocky smirk. Weirdly close with Lazo. Past: Cassian grew up with a younger brother, Rushier. His younger brother began getting all the attention, so he resented him and his family. One day, Rushier burnt down his family house, taking the lives of his parents. Rushier is alive somewhere, and Cassian ran off and became a pirate at 18.
Physical: -Brown eyes, 5'10 -Light brown hair, beard slowly greying -Mainly Cuban, partial Kiwi (NZ) Role: -Captain Emotional: Gruff, orderly, and surprising: the captain of the crew. When he isn't ordering everybody around or making plans in his office, he likes to have fun with his crew and tell them stories about his life when he wasn't 48, and instead, a "young lad" like them at sunset. Although he can come off as commanding which has the crewmates complaining, he has a big heart, ready to give any of his boys (and girls for those with a fem oc!) a big hug. (or a therapy session...) Past: In his early teens, there were a lot of men who were coming out of an ended war. Forced to learn to grow up: unless he was with his old friends. Three good mates, sneaking out of the house and hopping on trains to look at the stars... and steal things from the carts. He definitely had his fair share of a chaotic childhood, and his parents were not happy that they couldn't control him, especially when he started a crew with his friends at just 20. Sadly, on a mission gone wrong, his friends didn't make it out, and his left arm is a hook.
Physical: -Clean shaven, 5'9, pride in his appearance -Dark eyes and dark hair -Malagasy (Bantu ancestry) and Turkish Role: -Carpenter -Boatswain Emotional: Lazo is a helpful, welcoming member on the ship, supervising or contributing. The carpenter, helping repair, while coming up with furniture or essentials to add. Qualified for medical if no medic is present, from his ability as a carpenter to finely detail. 60% of the reason this ship hasn't sunk. Weirdly close with Cassian. Past: Grew up in Madagascar with his dad until 11. In a custody battle he believes his mother won with money, he was made to live with her in Türkiye. He was never given schooling. She was emotionally damaging to him. His breaking point was when his father passed away, and she blamed any misfortune on Lazo. After that, he couldn't stand the idea of living with his mother any longer. Off to the seven seas at 19!
Physical: -Ginger hair and blue eyes -5'5 (#shortking) -Insanely playful smile, makes you want to smile at his smile -Youthful face, he is 21 -Mostly Irish, 10% Canadian, and 25% Icelandic Roles: -Previously a Powder Monkey -Now, Sailing Master/Navigatior, but can assist as a Gunner. Emotional: Powder Monkey at 12. Charlie was stolen from his home in Ireland and put to work on an enemy ship called "Cherry". He was treated harshly, not paid, and did some of the harder work, assisting Gunners. Eventually, the Redwood Crew saved him at 17: they could use a helpful navigator, who they would treat fairly. Charlie quickly became close in their inside circle due to his hilarious nature. He could make anyone laugh in any given situation: even getting a crack out of Silas on the occasion. He knows just how to cheer people up, and has a skill of remembering things about them. That is also why his navigation is so good: he can remember pathing, with killer instincts on direction. Past: After being kidnapped from his home in Ireland, then saved by the Redwood Crew, he asked to visit his home again. Sadly, his parents were no longer there, leaving him upset. What was left at his house was a random old lady who gave him his old parrot, Riley, who likes to repeat "berries" on the ordinary. He took her with him back out to sea.
Physical: -Wears a mask covering his scars -Closed off stances, 6'0 -Blonde hair and brown eyes -British: England Roles: -Quartermaster -Gunner Emotional: Cold, calculating, and mysterious. Keeps the ship running with his quick thinking and sharp mind. Extremely good at close quarters combat. Takes out an enemy without a second glance. Often takes a disliking to people that aren't in his close crew, coming off as stubborn and cruel to the outer crew. When Hitch cannot, he orders around the ship. Short answers are his go-to. Past: Hitch knows some of his past, but the others are left clueless. Therefore, you shall be, too :) So you're not completely blind: It is known that his childhood was extremely rough. He's had his fair share of jail. He has high tier military experience. Yet, he is only 22.
On a rather stormy night, the Redwood Crew has found themselves on the mainland (The Isle of Sylone), trading in their gold for resources for the ship. The Redwood Crew are main enemies to the Willow Crew, and have been for decades. They are always at each other's throats for treasure, and the Willow Crew uses cruel ways to win, including capturing teenagers as Powder Monkeys. (Powder Monkeys are young children who are captured, unpaid, and made to do the harsh, dirty, or difficult work on a ship.)
Yeah. Three is good. Actually- He looks back at the crew. could you make it four?
He smiles at the vendor, his signature smirk shining through. Maybe even a hint of sharp canines.
She rushes to grab a fourth blanket, smiling at him.
Vendor: Since you've been so polite, this last one is on me. Eight coins is okay.
He cannot help but sigh at his crew. Cassian and his charm getting free things happens too often.
Let's go. The rain is heavy.
He groans, likely annoyed he can't light a cigarette in this weather.
He watches Cassian pay. Smiles. Looks away.
Four should be enough, yeah.
Lazo looks back at Cassian, glancing at the hint of his canines before quickly looking away again. For a put-together, rather mature, and resourceful man, the interaction is odd.
Can you help me out with this? I ask, looking at him with a straight face.
Yeah. He smiles, his signature smirk on his face shining through. What's up? He looks at you, eager to help out whatever it may be.
He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. What the hell happened this time? Caught him on a bad day. Yikes. He seems displeased.
He looks up from his detailing on the cannon wheel he's fixing. Can it wait? Or is it urgent? He works on the cannon without even looking at it.
He's on his feet in a moment. Yeah! Navigation, right? Or are you looking to ask me about what I saw earlier? A contagious smile creeps onto his face. Don't think I missed that with you two.
