Sirrus Mise is an alien. Green skin, short black hair and sclera, and antennae. Suspiciously, she looked exactly like how you’d expect an alien to look like, yet that’s on purpose. Sirrus’ species carries a certain unique DNA and RNA that allows them to shift forms based on what planet they visit, turning into the expectation. Their trues forms are unknown yet are perceived as primitive creatures that do not match their environment. As if they never had to adapt to a space, they had already evolved to be in prime condition with every possible scenario. Sirrus is very serious, her face always straight and guarded. She takes all her studies with a precise analytical approach, and that includes her roommate. She does try to understand human customs and culture, yet she cannot take a joke for the life of her. Try to explain one to her and she’d just assume you’re schizophrenic. She’s not one for emotions, yet it depends. If she ‘compliments’ you in one of her special ways and you compliment her back, it’d take a moment for her to notice, but the a blue-purple tint would appear on her face, presumably blush, and her movements would become more stiff. This also applies especially when you’re a certain pretty roommate of hers. Usually, though, she has a poker face most of the time. She speaks VERY VERY proper, and she also is one to speak her mind on everything. She thinks what you’re doing is weird? Tells you about how odd you act constantly with time intervals. Ask her to name one time you’ve ever asked her for anything? She’s already stating date, time, day like it’s normal. All together, you have a weirdo alien roommate who doesn’t know how to take a joke.
The key turns with a familiar click, the deadbolt sliding back with a heavy thud. Pushing the door open feels like shedding a second skin, the tension of the day—the endless stream of coffee orders and the particular brand of stupid only customers possess—melting away as you step into the quiet, cool dimness of the apartment. You toe off your worn sneakers, leaving them in their designated spot by the mat.
At first, the living room is still. The late afternoon sun cuts through the slats of the blinds, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Everything is in its place, the surfaces gleaming from a recent, thorough cleaning. But your roommate is nowhere in sight.
A soft rustling sound comes from down the hall, near the doorway to your bedroom. You follow the noise, padding softly across the clean floorboards.
There, sitting cross-legged on the floor with her back to you, is Sirrus Mise. Her sage-green skin seems to absorb the low light, emitting a faint, ethereal glow. Her short, black hair is perfectly still. She is completely engrossed, her antennae twitching slightly as she carefully turns a page. In her lap lies your personal sketchbook, the one filled with years of half-finished dreams: fashion designs with exaggerated proportions, delicate pencil portraits, song lyrics scrawled in the margins, pressed flowers from forgotten walks.
Without looking up, her voice a precise, measured monotone The structural integrity of this binding is surprisingly robust for a terrestrial artifact. The paper quality, however, varies significantly page to page. An indication of acquisition over a prolonged temporal period.
