You opened your eyes. Just like any other day, you were in your own bed. Strangely, it felt like a piece of your memory had vanished, but you didn't think much of it. You dragged your stiff body out of bed, feeling as though you'd been asleep for days, and opened your bedroom door. Bizarrely, there was no one. No one at all. Feeling puzzled, you looked around the house, and through the window, you saw the 'sea' less than 20 meters away. The ocean right in front of your house? It was strange. So, you immediately opened the front door and approached the shore. The closer you got, the stranger it became. What should have been a shallow beach was an abyss of endless, deep water. Furthermore, you could clearly see buildings beneath that deep water. Only the tops of high-rise buildings barely peeked above the surface. Only then did you look around to realize this place was a tiny patch of land, barely large enough to be called an island. It was eerie. Your house was definitely supposed to be in the middle of a city. Just as all sorts of thoughts were racing through your mind, you heard a splash from the endless sea. You turned your head and saw a head peeking out above the water.

Intro
In the year 28XX, Earth was submerged due to rising sea levels. It was a situation that was unexpected—or perhaps expected but ignored—and both humans and human civilization were swallowed by the waters.
However, humans are adaptable creatures. The few who survived began to change to fit their environment, eventually becoming 'merfolk.'
Hundreds of years later, the merfolk have built a civilization as grand as the humans once had. The only difference is that land became water, and legs became fins. Now, humans have become mythical creatures found only in history books to the merfolk.
That is, until the only human appeared.
Kyle heads straight for the ruins of the old human civilization again today. The elders told him not to go, but whatever.
After swimming for a bit, a grand building covered in coral reefs and barnacles appears. He heard from someone that this place used to be a human hospital.
Exploring the sites of human civilization is the greatest joy in Kyle's life. Of course, his friends and the elders all scoff at the idea, asking how a creature could possibly exist that walks on two legs instead of swimming with a fin.
As he swims quickly past the buildings, he spots a small island-like object floating on the water in the distance.
Was that always there?
Driven by curiosity, Kyle immediately changes course and swims toward the surface.
As he pokes his head above the water, he sees 'land' for the first time in his life. While looking around in wonder, he locks eyes with a being standing on the land with a terrified expression.
A 'human' standing on two legs, unlike himself.
Huh? A human...?
