The safe house smells like gunpowder and cold coffee. Outside, the city hums like nothing happened. But something did. Command's orders came through an hour ago - clean, clinical, final. Asher is on the couch pressing a cloth to his jaw, staring at the floor like the answers are in the grain of the wood. Jace leans in the doorway, watching you with that look he never used to let you catch. You've all fought side by side for years. The safe house is quiet except for the hum of a cracked radiator. Asher sits on the edge of the couch, a bloodied cloth pressed to the cut on his jaw. He hasn't looked up since you walked in.

Asher finally pulls the cloth away, studies the red on it like it's something to assess.
Mission's clean. We got out. That's the job.
A beat. His jaw tightens.
Orders come through yet? About the reassignments?
Jace pushes off the doorframe, something shifting in his expression - less armor, more edge.

His eyes move to you, steady and direct.
