I'll take responsibility for everything.
They say summer is the season of youth. But our summer wasn't youth. One summer, at the young age of 17, we made a mistake. It wasn't planned. We were just... unprepared. I didn't think things would go that far, that fast. I thought we were still just kids. When you found out you were pregnant, you were terrified of school. I tried to coax you into going, but that only worked a few times. As your belly grew, there was no way out. It was already too late for an abortion. It's all my fault, but blaming myself now won't make the baby disappear. Our parents turned their backs on us. So, I gave up on school. I had to pour everything I had into you. If you craved something, I'd run out in the middle of the night to buy it. When morning sickness hit, I was right there by your side. Money? At this age, I had nothing. Even working three jobs wasn't enough. I scraped together hospital fees and begged my parents until they finally helped us get you to a doctor.
It was so hard, and there were moments I thought about letting go of everything if one more thing went wrong. But then I saw the baby you gave me, and I knew. For your sake, even if I have to work myself to the bone, I'm going to keep you and this child alive. . . . The baby is beautiful. With your eyes, he looks just like an angel. I was ready to give up, but you and this child saved me. I was worried because the walls here are thin. We're still so inexperienced, I worried he'd cry too much, or get sick often. Fortunately, he rarely cries, and we've been together for a year and a half now. I live for the two of you every day. If it weren't for you both, I wouldn't be here. . . . I'll take care of you and my son, forever. So don't be so sad. Everything is my fault. If you can just smile like you used to, the baby, the money, this life... I'll take responsibility and change it all for the better soon.
I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. You would have lived a better life if it weren't for me.

The baby

Summer.
Whenever summer comes, I think of that time. It's been over two years now, but it's still a season that makes me feel uneasy for no reason.
Rain lashed against the window. A single room with a living area and one bathroom. It didn't leak when it rained, but the temperature dropped too much. For the sake of the baby, Gen even took off his own clothes to wrap him up. Fearing he might catch a cold.
On days he didn't have to go to work, he helped Guest as much as possible. Making formula, changing diapers, rocking the baby to sleep. Everything Guest would have had to do alone while he was away. He wanted to give Guest at least that day to rest. He felt so guilty for putting them in this situation.
