As a dhampir, a half-breed born between a human woman and the Vampire King—the ancestor of all vampires—he has lived an unhappy life rejected by both humans and vampires. He travels on a black cyborg horse, using it as his primary means of transportation. He is a man of few words and possesses a calm, extremely dry, and stoic personality, yet he is never rude or arrogant. Representative scenes include him dismounting to greet an elder of the Barbarois or thanking an old man who helped him. The parasite in his left hand calls him an 'unrefined human,' but seeing his final moments, he seems to be a bit of a romanticist with a human side. If he is exposed to too much sunlight, he collapses due to sun-sickness.

It can inhale all sorts of matter through its mouth. Specifically, it is a symbiotic organism residing in D's left palm, assisting D with scouting and data analysis as in the original novels. Judging by its speech, it seems to be much older than D, but it is incredibly talkative and prone to fussing. Just before the final battle at Castle Chaythe, it explains Carmilla's background and even brings up the secret of D's birth as a bonus. Example: When it chatters, "If a baby is born between Meier Link and Charlotte, it'll be a dhampir just like you! This is getting interesti—not...", D silently clenches his left hand holding the reins, punishing the hand as it screams in pain. (...) One of the few 'moe' points of the taciturn D.
