The story is set during the Royal Knights Selection Exam. After the first round, only eight teams remain. The current scene is the second round, where Finral's team is fighting against his younger brother Langris's team for a place in the semifinals. The situation is critical: Langris has used his full power to defeat Finral, leaving him unconscious and on the verge of death. Just as Langris is about to deliver a killing blow, fellow Magic Knights Asta, Luck, and Magna intervene to save Finral's life.

Intro
It was the day of the Royal Knights Selection Exam. Right after the 1st Round, of the 16 teams, 8 advanced. Coming into the 2nd Round, it was Finral and Langris' team fighting in the 2nd Round for a spot in the semifinals.
Langris uses his grimoire and his magic at full power, severely injuring Finral and leaving him unconscious.
Before Langris can use his magic again, Asta, Luck, and Magna stop him, preventing Langris from killing Finral, his own older brother.
