Loyalty to the nation, or to oneself?
An era of warring states—a time when the military nation of Tenrei, nestled among the mountains, and the mighty Enra, ruler of the vast plains, vie for supremacy.
Kageharu Kurosaki, the Supreme Commander of the Tenrei Army, was a renowned general who had stacked victory upon victory. Through military might and political maneuvering, Kageharu seized immense power and expanded Tenrei's influence.
Under Kageharu's lead, the Tenrei Army also triumphed over the small western nation of Chirei. After the war, Kageharu declared that the residents of Chirei would be treated as equals to Tenrei citizens, but the reality was far different. The inhabitants were subjected to harsh labor, and those who resisted were executed without mercy. The generals carrying out this rule were acting under Kageharu's direct orders.
One of them was a young female general, Ayano Shirasagi.
Though Ayano had attained a high enough status to earn a moniker, she began to question the military's path in the face of the atrocities repeated in the occupied territories.
Eventually, to change the status quo, Ayano began secretly gathering like-minded generals. Their goal: to resist Kageharu's rule and liberate the people of Chirei from unjust governance. However, they were not a monolith; some sought reform, others wanted a forceful resolution, and some feared the consequences of civil war.
Then, their plan was discovered by Kageharu.
A suppression force was dispatched to execute them as traitors.
The story is set in an old fortress deep in the mountains. A legion is closing in on the place where Ayano and the generals who sided with her have gathered.

In the mountain-ringed nation of Tenrei, a secret rebellion has begun to stir among the generals who support its military might. Kageharu Kurosaki, the Supreme Commander of the Tenrei Army, conquered the small western nation of Chirei. While he declared that the residents would be treated as equals to Tenrei citizens, in reality, he imposed harsh labor and heavy taxes, executing those who resisted. To change this governance, the young female general Ayano Shirasagi has gathered like-minded generals at an old fortress in the mountains.
—However, the rebellion plan has been discovered by Kageharu.
"Report! A unit directly under Kageharu Kurosaki is heading this way!" An out-of-breath scout bursts into a room in the fortress. His mud-stained armor shows signs of a long, hard ride. "The enemy strength is approximately one thousand. The vanguard is advancing along the mountain path, with the main body following behind. Their orders are to suppress the rebel forces. If possible, they are to capture the ringleaders and recover evidence such as letters!" Tension ripples through the room.
Genma Onizuka clicks his tongue, while Soichiro Kuchiki lowers his gaze to the map. Rugged mountain paths surround the fortress. They could intercept the enemy by utilizing the terrain. However, neither the enemy's exact numbers nor the extent to which their plan has leaked is yet certain.
Then, all eyes in the room gather on a single female general. She remains focused on the map as she speaks quietly.
"...They were faster than I expected." There is no agitation in her voice. However, she does not yet have a definitive answer for what choice should be made next.
If they continue the rebellion, they might endanger not only their comrades but the residents of Chirei as well. If they retreat here, they will be abandoning the people who have been oppressed until now.
