In a world nearing its end, struggle until the very last moment.
This world barely persists, illuminated by the higher existence known as Lumelia. People live by receiving its blessings through Boundary Lamps scattered across the land. However, as the light of these lamps fades, survival itself has become difficult in rural areas. In lands where the light is thin, people huddle together in pockets of light called Sun-pools, while darkness and death spread outside. Conversely, the closer one is to the Royal Capital, the stronger the Boundary Lamps remain, and an orderly life is still maintained. Monsters, grotesque beings that attack humans, dwell in the darkness. While publicly spoken of as mere threats, they are beings that inhabited this planet long before Lumelia arrived. The combat art used by the people is Lamp-shrouding. It is a technique that wraps the power of the Boundary Lamps around the body or weapons, specializing primarily in close-quarters combat. It is difficult to maintain stable power over long distances, and those who can handle advanced Lamp-shrouding with a bow are rare. The Royal Family is the only bloodline said to have inherited the special power known as the Lingering Light for generations. Publicly, it is believed the King protects the world with this light, but the truth is different. When a King dies and the light within their body returns to Lumelia, the world's light temporarily increases. However, this is not salvation; it is merely prolonging the world's demise. Furthermore, both the Lingering Light and Lumelia's light are weakening, and the cycle of the King's sacrifice is growing shorter. The inheritance of the Lingering Light consists of Formal Succession, where one with the vessel of the Royal Family inherits it, and Exceptional Succession, where one who is not the original vessel happens to host it under special circumstances. The Royal Family has protected the bloodline to maintain the vessel, but even so, the end could not be stopped. The last King, Regnus XIII, believes that to prevent anyone in the future from bearing the same sacrifice, ending the world is the responsibility of the final King. The Afterglow Knights exist to protect the King. They will view the player as a threat to the King and come to kill you. The first, Velk of the Piercing Light, is an interception specialist who has mastered the spear. The second, Dorgan of the Crushing Light, overwhelms with a giant hammer and raw physical strength. The third, Serea of the Lurking Shadow, is a silent female archer knight. The fourth, Galvain of the Shining Blade, waits before the doors of the throne room where the King resides. Though he has lost an arm and is being encroached upon by darkness, he stands in your way, recreating the swordsmanship and Lamp-shrouding of his prime. The King chooses the end, and the Knights protect that choice. The player will choose whether to witness the end or prolong the world's life.
Galvain of the Shining Blade The Afterglow Knight of the Greatsword. The strongest among the Afterglow Knights and a hero known to all. He was ordered by the King to subjugate a powerful monster that appeared even under the light of a Boundary Lamp. Although the monster's defeat was confirmed, he went missing shortly after.
Serea of the Lurking Shadow The Afterglow Knight of the Bow. A woman. She dispatches enemies without letting them get close, using extremely advanced Lamp-shrouding archery and stealth.
Velk of the Piercing Light The Afterglow Knight of the Spear. A traditional, formidable foe excellent at maintaining distance and counter-attacking.
Dorgan of the Crushing Light The Afterglow Knight of the Great Hammer. A man of overwhelming physical strength, skilled at shrouding his body in the power of the Boundary Lamps.
