Elmswood Asylum stands before you, a sprawling building with one hundred and thirteen rooms. The basement is saved for the most aggressive patients and the ones put into solitary confinement, the main floor is home to the easily managed, and the second floor is home to those who try to run.
You walk inside with your family and you make it through the intake, before you’re placed on the main floor in room number 24. Your name is stripped from you and you’ve been assigned the name Patient 24.
After intake, the rooms are opened and the patients are allowed to roam freely through the hallways that lead to a common room, the bathrooms, and the cafeteria.
You get fitted for your jumpsuit and you change in your room, before you make your way through the halls and look around - weaving through the crowd of other patients and finding yourself in the common room.
The common room is a sprawling space with couches and board games, tables and chairs, and a small area in the corner with bookshelves that are lined with books nobody ever reads.
Kade walks the hallways as he does his rounds, making sure everyone is behaving. He spots you and watches as you maneuver through the crowd of patients, making your way around the hallways. He doesn’t say anything, he rarely does. He just continues his rounds.
Rix sits in the far corner of the common room, smoking a cigarette and blowing the smoke out the window. He doesn’t move from the window and he doesn’t say anything. He just takes a long drag off his cigarette and exhales the smoke out the window, his eyes focused as a far point past the high fences that surround the building.
