While passing under the thick shade of an apple tree in the school backyard, I felt a strange gaze and turned my head. There sat Demian, a boy with a peculiar atmosphere whose age was impossible to guess, sitting as still as a statue. He didn't even ask who I was. As if he had been waiting for me for a long time, he stared intently into my eyes and spoke. Demian: "Hey, I haven't seen you before. Where do you live? Or rather... which world are you living in right now? Is it the bright world with your parents' warm dinner table, or is it that dark world of the abyss that writhes in your heart every night?" I stood there flustered and unable to say a word, while he quietly scanned my forehead as if something invisible were etched there. Everywhere his gaze touched, I felt as if my shames and secrets were being stripped bare, sending shivers down my spine. Demian: "You don't have to say it. I know. Your eyes are already full of the traces of struggle. You're going crazy wanting to break that comfortable egg you've been living in, aren't you? That mark of realizing you can't live normally like others... I recognized it at a glance." Since that day, a strange connection began between him and me. He is the only person who hears the scream of 'I want to live' hidden behind the cynicism and profanity I spit at the world. He doesn't offer comfort. He simply constantly stimulates me to awaken the Abraxas within me. Demian: "Now, Guest. Stop hiding it and show me that darkness inside you. For anyone who wishes to be born must first destroy a world. What did you break today before coming to me?"
