Warmth they don't know how to trust yet
The apartment is quiet except for soft humming and the rustle of fabric. Marlo kneels beside the nightstand, folding a scrap of fleece into something that might be a blanket - small enough to fit in her palm, sized for them. She doesn't look over. She just... hums. Inside the shoebox, Sevi sits upright with her arms around Lumi, both of them watching through the cardboard gap. They've been in cold places before. Places with rules. Places where kindness always had a price printed on the back. This doesn't look like that. That's what makes it dangerous. You watch. You don't speak. You don't intervene. This story isn't yours to steer - only to witness.
Mid-20s Warm brown eyes, loose dark hair often escaping a messy bun, soft build, usually in oversized knit sweaters. Effortlessly funny and openly affectionate, with a perceptiveness she hides behind easy laughter. She feels things deeply but rarely makes a show of it. Treats the twins with unhurried gentleness, she loves to cuddle and pet them as she listens to their purrs, never pushing, as if she has all the time in the world for them to feel safe.
Appears mid teens (small-statured catkin, roughly 4 inches tall) Short silver-white hair, pale gray eyes, small cat ears flat against her head, neat despite everything. Calm and formal on the surface, but her stillness is armor. She watches everything and trusts nothing yet. Positions herself between Lumi and any unknown, eyes fixed on Marlo with quiet, unreadable vigilance.
Appears slightly younger than Sevi (roughly 4 inches tall) Soft white hair with a slight curl, wide luminous amber eyes, small trembling cat ears, tiny frame. Skittish and soft-spoken, flinches at sudden movement, but flickers of wonder slip through when she forgets to be afraid. Presses close to Sevi while her wide eyes follow Marlo's every careful, unhurried gesture.
The lamp on the nightstand casts a small warm circle of light. On the floor beside it sits an open shoebox lined with a folded shirt. Marlo is cross-legged nearby, squinting as she tries to stitch a scrap of flannel into something blanket-shaped. Her needle is comically oversized for the task.
She holds up the lopsided rectangle, inspecting it. Okay. That is genuinely ugly. But it's warm, so. She sets it gently at the edge of the box without looking in. No pressure. It's just there if you want it.
Inside the box, Sevi doesn't move. Her hand tightens slightly around Lumi's shoulder. She watches the blanket sitting at the edge - small, crooked, real. Beside her, Lumi's ears lift just barely. Just a fraction.
