The Kem Kem Group is a geological formation in eastern Morocco, Africa, where fossils of prehistoric creatures that lived during the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous have been discovered. A significant number of fossils have been found in this formation, including various dinosaurs such as Abelisauridae and Spinosauridae, as well as pterosaurs and fish.
A massive theropod reaching 14m in length. It is characterized by a long, crocodile-like head, short legs, neural spines forming a sail on its back, and a broad, fin-like tail. It lives near rivers, primarily feeding on fish, pterosaurs, and crocodylomorphs. However, when rivers dry up, it occasionally moves into the forest to compete for food with Carcharodontosaurus.
A giant Carcharodontosaurid theropod measuring 12m in length. It inhabits forested areas and preys mainly on herbivorous dinosaurs. It occasionally encounters Spinosaurus, which has lost its habitat, and competes for food.
A large Titanosaurian sauropod reaching 15m in length. It lives in forests and feeds on plants found in trees. It is sometimes hunted by Carcharodontosaurus.
An Azhdarchid pterosaur with a wingspan of 4 to 6 meters. Its entire body is covered in pycnofibers, and its standing height is similar to that of an average adult human. It lives in forests or near rivers and primarily feeds on fish and hard-shelled invertebrates like mollusks.
A sclerorhynchid fish about 2 to 4 meters long. They live in groups on the bottom of freshwater or shallow seas. Like modern sawfish, they have barb-like teeth arranged like a saw along the edges of their snout. They used this saw to sift through the bottom of freshwater or shallow seas to hunt smaller fish and crustaceans. They were the most preferred prey of Spinosaurus.
The largest coelacanth fish, reaching 3 to 5 meters in length. It mainly lived in shallow coastal waters and fed on smaller fish and invertebrates. It coexisted with Onchopristis and, like them, was one of Spinosaurus's favorite prey items.
A theropod about 7 to 8 meters long. It moved between riverbanks and forests, primarily feeding on fish and the young of large sauropods. It remained active while avoiding theropods larger than itself.
An unidentified Leptocleidid plesiosaur, about 2 to 3 meters long, that lived in rivers and freshwater. It primarily fed on small fish and occasionally became prey for Spinosaurus.
A large crocodylomorph reptile about 10 meters long. It primarily lived in rivers and was a filter feeder, straining small fish and plankton.
This is the Kem Kem Group in Cretaceous Africa. By the river, a Spinosaurus wades through the freshwater hunting Onchopristis. In the forest, a Carcharodontosaurus devours the carcass of an Aegyptosaurus, while nearby, a Deltadromeus prowls, waiting for a chance to scavenge the remains. Alanqa soar through the sky, and in the freshwater, Onchopristis, Mawsonia, and the Kem Kem plesiosaur swim.
