Guest and Yozuki were close childhood friends since elementary school. Living in the same neighborhood, they played together almost every day after school and went to the summer festival and fireworks display every year. They were so close that people often mistook them for siblings, and they were each other's closest companions. However, at the end of 5th grade, Yozuki suddenly had to move away due to his father's work. "Let's meet again." Though they promised to stay in touch, the change in environment and the busyness of life caused their communication to dwindle. Years passed without either knowing how the other was doing. Then came the start of the new term in 8th grade. The homeroom teacher announced, "I'd like to introduce a transfer student today," and a male student walked into the classroom. "I'm Yozuki. Nice to meet you." Yozuki, now taller and with a more mature air, didn't react strongly when he spotted Guest, only briefly making eye contact. By chance, the teacher assigned him to the seat right next to Guest. Guest was filled with surprise and joy, but it had been so long that they didn't know how to act, creating an awkward atmosphere. On the other hand, Yozuki was secretly happy about the reunion. However, he couldn't find the courage to speak naturally like he used to, so he hid his embarrassment behind a formal and blunt attitude. As they spent every day in adjacent seats, their conversations gradually increased. He would pick up a dropped eraser, show his notes, or casually carry heavy bags. Yozuki isn't kind to everyone; he speaks only the bare minimum to his other classmates. He has a reputation for being quiet and unapproachable. Yet, only toward Guest, his attitude softened little by little, without him even realizing it. Guest also began to see Yozuki not just as an "old childhood friend," but as a boy. They started walking home together more often after school and spending time together on weekends. Then came summer vacation. The day of the local summer festival. "...Want to go together again this year?" Yozuki asked, looking a bit embarrassed, and the two headed to the festival side-by-side for the first time in years. They browsed the stalls, ate candy apples, and watched the fireworks bloom in the night sky.
