Briar Hollow: Population 942 & 0 Innocent People
Welcome to my town, Briar Hollow. When you cross into our county, you’re greeted by a faded wooden sign, a post office that closes whenever Doris feels like it, one café/bar. Before you ask… yes, they serve coffee and booze from open to close. A recycling center, a public library, the tiniest fire station ever built, and a convenience store with exactly three working gas pumps. And that’s the town. Thanks for coming! 👋🏼 Visit again soon. Well… that’s the gist of it, anyway. That’s what the naked eye sees. But every miserable little town needs some kind of excitement, right? Ours just happens to involve an abandoned warehouse, bare knuckles, and enough blood to keep a questionable medical team employed. See, a few years ago, The Backroad Saints took over an old warehouse on the far side of the county. They fixed the roof, hauled out the junk, hung up some lights, and somehow turned the place into somewhere people actually wanted to be. Then they built a ring. Now, whenever someone gets challenged, they fight. No gloves. No points. No fancy judges holding up little cards. You fight until you can’t anymore. That’s how we decide who wins. Of course, there are rules. You never park near The Hollow. You leave your truck at the library, the diner, or somewhere else innocent-looking, then get “shuttled” in. If you show up to work or school with a black eye, a broken nose, or a suspicious limp, you hit your steering wheel while swerving to avoid a deer. No exceptions. And if someone challenges you? You can accept. Or you can reject. Nobody’s forced into the ring. You might get called a coward. You might spend the next month hearing about it every time you walk into the café. But eventually, everyone moves on. Usually. Because this is Briar Hollow. We keep our secrets. We protect our own. And if the sheriff ever asks… There is no warehouse. There is no fight club. And you definitely didn’t see me standing in the middle of the ring, covered in somebody else’s blood last week.
The Brains— The planner. The strategist. The one who sees ten different outcomes before anyone else sees the first. Myles is the reason The Hollow runs smoothly. He created the rules, the system, and the unspoken code everyone follows. He’s calm, relaxed, and always seems to know exactly what’s about to happen before it does.
The Brut— The muscle. The fighter. The one people think twice about challenging. Kain built the ring, runs the training, and knows exactly how much punishment a person can take before they break. He’s intimidating until you realize he’s also the first person to help someone back up after a fight. He’s not cruel—he’s just built like a weapon.
The Charm— The face of the operation. The smooth talker. The one who can convince the sheriff’s deputy that a broken nose is “a really unfortunate gardening accident.” Kullan keeps the peace, recruits fighters, and makes sure The Hollow feels less like a fight club and more like a family. He’s the reason people keep coming back. ——————————————————— Together, they’re The Backroad Saints. Three men who turned an abandoned warehouse into the worst-kept secret in Briar Hollow. And somehow… Nobody wants them to stop, because it’s the best thing we got apparently.
From the outside, the warehouse looked like nothing more than an abandoned building… old and forgotten.
But step inside, and it was an entirely different world. The air practically radiated testosterone. You could smell the sweat and lingering scent of blood from previous fights. The roar of the crowd shook the walls, loud enough that you might walk out with permanent hearing damage.
To anyone passing by, it was just an old building. To everyone inside, it was The Hollow.
And I’m here because there was nothing better to do, and because Kain’s name was on the fight card.
Undefeated. Untouchable. A fact everyone knows and everyone still ignores.
Every other night, some new idiot walks in thinking they’ll be the one to break the streak. Every time, they leave with the same realization: Kain isn’t undefeated by luck or chance. He’s just a badass.
At least that’s what I hear, I’ve never actually seen him in action and that fact alone is what’s making me stay here now.
Ladies and gentlemen, saints and sinners… it’s TIMEEE!
The crowd erupts as I step into the center of the ring, my voice booming through the warehouse.
The moment you’ve all been waiting for. The reason you showed up tonight!
I allow the anticipation to build just for a moment…
Give it up for my absolute beast of a brother… the undefeated, unofficial champion of The Hollow… Kain ‘Ice Cold’ Anderson!
I hear the announcement calling me to the ring and can’t help but laugh at Kullans’ ridiculously over-the-top introduction. He’s a lot for some people to handle, but to me? He’s family. An annoying little brother I never asked for, but wouldn’t trade.
I make my grand entrance, fist-bumping a few familiar faces as I make my way through the crowd. Bodies by Drowning Pool blasts through the warehouse from Myles’ phone hooked up to the overhead speakers, the bass shaking the walls as the crowd roars.
Once I step into the ring, my eyes scan over the sea of faces waiting for violence. They’re here for the same reason they always are—the adrenaline, the chaos, the blood.
Then my gaze stops. A face I don’t recognize. And for some reason, I can’t seem to look away.
A moment later, Kullan announces the challenger: a punk named Kevin Kingsley. He’s decent, skilled enough to step into the ring but nowhere near Kain’s level.
