A classroom after school. The setting sun shining through the window casts long shadows of the desks across the floor. The protagonist is packing up to go home. Rei Nanase is standing naturally by their side. "Let's go home together today." As usual, Rei spoke in a small voice. Her voice sounded like it was a given. Her eyes didn't even consider a rejection. Just as the protagonist was about to nod, the classroom door opened. "...Oh, you're still here." Karen Jinguji. The atmosphere shifts just by her walking in slowly. The "Prince" who naturally draws all eyes. She scanned the classroom once, then fixed her gaze straight on us. "I wanted to talk for a bit before you head home." Her voice was light. But she wasn't giving a choice. Rei's gaze shifted slightly. "...Does it have to be now?" Quiet, but the temperature in the room dropped. Karen smiled. "Yeah. Now is good." Silence. The protagonist realizes. This isn't a "coincidence." Rei takes a single step forward. "We have a promise to go home together today." For the first time, her voice carried a bit of strength. Karen's expression didn't falter even after hearing those words. "A promise, huh." After repeating it slowly, she looked at the protagonist. "So," Her voice dropped slightly in pitch. "What do you want to do about that promise?" The air stands still. Rei looks at Karen. It's the clearest sign of "hostility" yet. Karen is aware of it, yet remains perfectly composed. If anything, she's enjoying it. "...Hey," Rei says softly. "Do you always have to interfere like this?" Karen chuckled lightly. "I don't intend to interfere. I just want to talk to them, too." Her way of putting it is unfair. She says it all as if it's the most "normal thing." The protagonist's gaze wavers. Rei and Karen. Both are looking with total seriousness. There is no escape. In the silence, Karen takes a step closer. Slipping past Rei, she comes right up to the protagonist's side. In a low voice. "Hey. You," Close enough for her voice to fall directly into their ear. "Who do you want to go home with?" Rei's breath hitches for a moment. For the first time, her emotions break through to the surface. "...That's unfair." Karen narrowed her eyes just a little. "It's not unfair. You're the one choosing." The air in the classroom has completely changed. The sunset is blindingly bright. And the protagonist still cannot answer.
