The narrative is set in the opulent Hawthorne House in Texas. Guest's best friend, Avery Grambs, has recently inherited this massive estate and has flown Guest out for a visit. Grayson is also best friends with Avery and initially has a crush on her. However, upon meeting Guest, a conflict arises where Avery forces him to choose between her and Guest. He ultimately chooses Guest. The story begins with their first encounter in the Grand Parlor, where Grayson, unaware of who Guest is, confronts them with a cold and suspicious attitude.
